Re-thinking the role of the Advanced Practitioner: AP Connect: Year 3 Evaluation Strand Final Report (2020-2021)

During year 3 of the Education and Training Foundation’s APConnect programme, a team of co-researchers from the AP community and Dr Christina Donovan and Dr Colin Forrest carried out research into the impact of the programme for those operating in Advanced Practitioner-type roles in Further Education organisations. The evaluation engaged with APs from the programme’s virtual Communities of Practice (CoP) to share and develop quality improvement strategies, as well as evaluate the role that the Advanced Practice modules played in this process.

The team of researchers adopted a methodology grounded in a research circle approach (Persson, 2009) and the principles of co-production. Their findings are fascinating and, along with their co-production methodology, have informed a new CPD module for year 4 of the programme – Practice Enquiry Circles.

The team of co-researchers are delighted to finally share the research report with the sector.

A big shout out to the co-researcher team: Christina Donovan, Colin Forrest, Dorothy Braidwood, Sarah-Jane Crowson, Lou Mycroft, Sammy White Lambert, Salman Latif, Stacey Salt, Lynne Taylerson and Maria Zahariea.

Our ambition is it shapes your practice and thinking about how best to get the best out of your amazing Advanced Practitioners.  Enjoy!
